The 2nd Clean Propulsion Technologies Review meeting gathered together the whole project consortium – nine companies and six research organizations. In this meeting, the focus was on sharing the research results achieved in the project so far – and common brainstorming and networking, of course. The event was held on May 17-18th at the premises of Aalto University, Espoo, and it was also possible to participate via Zoom.
The event was a success. Approximately 80 people from the project partner organizations participated, which is a very high share of the people that work for this project. More than 60 participants were physically present in Espoo and the rest participated remotely. The participants were happy to meet the whole consortium for the second time and the atmosphere was productive throughout the conference. The conversations were lively.
The conference consisted of two plenary sessions, four technical sessions, two workshops, and guided tours to the VTT’s engine and vehicle laboratory, and Aalto University’s engine laboratory. In addition, a conference dinner was organized for the participants.
The plenary sessions had three excellent keynote speakers. In the first plenary session, the Advisory Board member Antonio Garcia Martinez from CMT /Valencia University gave his presentation titled ‘Is RCCI the Practical Low-temperature Combustion of the future?’. In the second plenary session, Stefan Strohmayer from Geyser Batteries presented interesting viewpoints on ‘Hybrid energy storage technologies for heavy-duty applications’. The event ended with an inspiring presentation titled ‘Future Fuels’, given by Steering Group Chairman Christer Wik, Wärtsilä. After this event, the chairmanship of the Steering Group was transferred from Christer Wik to Ismo Hämäläinen from AGCO Power. The chairmanship has been shared between Wärtsilä and AGCO Power as the biggest industrial stakeholders in this project.
Technical sessions and workshops were hosted by the research organizations’ representatives. Technical sessions consisted of interesting presentations and discussions around the session themes focusing on the project results. The workshops included brainstorming and group work that created a lot of useful material for the project. The topics and hosts of the technical sessions and workshops are listed below.
